Consider Being a SCORE Volunteer

This may be your opportunity to:

  • Share ideas and experience with a congenial group of skilled business professionals
  • Keep your skills and knowledge current with the fast-changing business environment
  • Give back something to the business community
While business counseling is our mainstay, there are needs for very specialized talents within our organization.
  • Highly computer-literate person willing to learn by doing. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Programming capability in Microsoft Access and web-page knowledge are desirable.
  • Interest in overseeing and/or presenting workshops on business subjects. Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint would be helpful.
  • Individuals with background in bookkeeping and accounting.
Questions Regarding Membership

Question: What is SCORE Chapter 558?
Answer: SCORE Anchorage 558 is a nonprofit association dedicated to making small business counseling and training available to small businesses and providing an overall outreach to the small business community. With over 15 active members, male and female resources are available to provide assistance to most small business situations.

Question: Do I Have To Be Retired To Join SCORE?
Answer: No. Both retired and working professionals are welcome in SCORE.

Question: What do I need to join SCORE?
Answer: Call the phone number below or submit A resume or letter to the address listed below indicating your interest in becoming a SCORE counselor. You will be contacted very shortly about arranging a time to explore the potential opportunities for you within SCORE.

Question: Why Does SCORE Interview Candidates Before Accepting Members?
Answer: To assure that your expectations and qualifications are appropriately matched with those of SCORE. Also, to answer any questions that you may have regarding your potential experience as a SCORE volunteer.

Question: Why Do New SCORE Members Participate In A Training Program?
Answer: The orientation and training program permits the new member to understand SCORE's mission, services, and opportunities within the organization. The Counselor Professional Development Program provides guidance on how to be a good business counselor and how to develop good listening, interviewing and problem-solving habits.

Question: What Other Opportunities Exist For SCORE Members?

Answer:

  • Small-business client counseling
  • Cyber-counseling (i.e., e-mail counseling)
  • Guest speaker at local organizations
